On the French Riviera the calendar is not a matter of culture or leisure: it is traffic data. Three towns hold almost all of it — Nice, Cannes and Monaco — and each is squeezed between the mountains and the sea, with no spare road capacity. A four-day trade fair in Cannes or a three-day race in Monaco therefore shifts the balance of the whole coastal strip.
Here are the events that count, and what they really change for anyone arriving, leaving or passing through.
The calendar in one table
Dates confirmed for 2027 are shown as such. Where the next edition has not yet been published, the last known edition serves as a guide to the period: these events have been held at the same time of year for a long time.

Winter: the carnival and the lemons
February is the month when the French Riviera fills up when no one expects it. The Nice Carnival runs from 9 to 28 February 2027 on the theme “Vive l’Amour”, with place Masséna as its main stage. On parade days the heart of Nice is closed, tram lines are diverted and the Promenade des Anglais becomes impassable by car at certain hours.
Thirty kilometres away, Menton’s Fête du Citron occupies exactly the same slot: 13 to 28 February 2027, on the theme “Douce France”. The organiser claims more than 250,000 visitors and gives one piece of advice that few guides pass on: reach Menton before 11 h on parade Sundays and before 18 h on Thursdays. It is the only timing that really matters, because Menton is a dead end against the border and has only one useful way in.
Many visitors do both in the same weekend. It works, provided you accept that the road between Nice and Menton was never built for it.
Spring: Monaco moves onto the road
From April to June, Monaco holds three major events in ten weeks. The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters opens the sequence from 3 to 11 April 2027 at the Monte-Carlo Country Club; the singles final is set for Sunday 11 April. The effect is felt mainly on the corniches as the weekend approaches.
The Monaco E-Prix returns on 1 and 2 May 2027 — Formula E moved the round, originally planned for mid-May, to fit the Monegasque calendar. It runs through the streets of the principality, so it closes streets, exactly as Formula 1 does, on a shorter scale.
Then comes the Monaco Grand Prix, from 3 to 6 June 2027, with a sprint race on the Saturday for the first time. Parking bans run for around a fortnight either side of the event. In even years the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique is added in spring: the 15th edition was held from 24 to 26 April 2026.
In between, Cannes holds its Film Festival, from 11 to 22 May 2027. In May it is therefore quite possible to have Monaco and Cannes under special arrangements in the same week, with Nice airport in the middle.
Summer: the sea takes over
In July and August no event is needed to block the roads: the season is enough. The fixtures move towards the water and towards the evening. The Jumping International de Monte-Carlo builds its arena in the middle of Port Hercule in early July — the 2026 edition ran from 2 to 4 July. In Provence, the Aix-en-Provence Festival takes up much of the month: 2 to 21 July in 2026.
The summer difficulty is not the event, it is the hour. Between 17 h and 20 h the whole coastal strip comes back from the beach at once. A transfer to Nice airport set for 18 h in August is not the same journey as at 10 h.
Autumn: the trade fairs and the regattas
September is the busiest month of the year for business travel. The Cannes Yachting Festival opens the international boating season across two harbours — the Vieux Port and Port Canto — from 8 to 13 September in 2026. A fortnight later the Monaco Yacht Show takes over Port Hercule, from 23 to 26 September 2026, with a build-up that starts weeks ahead.
At the same time, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez fill the gulf: 26 September to 4 October in 2026. It is the annual peak for Golfe de Saint-Tropez – La Môle airport, whose operator puts the high season between Easter and the end of Les Voiles.
October belongs to MIPCOM, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, from 12 to 15 October in 2026. And November closes on the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes: start at 8 h on the Promenade des Anglais, finish on boulevard de la Croisette, by way of Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes Juan-les-Pins and Vallauris Golfe-Juan. The 2026 edition is set for Sunday 8 November. For one morning a year, the coast road between the two towns does not exist.
What to take away
Three rules are enough to cross the year without a bad surprise.
- Check the calendar before booking the hotel, not after. A stay in Cannes during MIPIM or Cannes Lions week costs more and travels worse, for reasons that have nothing to do with you.
- Move the hour rather than the day. Most of these events block only a few windows: the parades in the afternoon, the red-carpet arrivals from 17 h, the end of racing late on Sunday.
- Name the address, not the town. During an event it is not the destination that shapes the journey, it is the street: it decides which side of the perimeter the car can stop on.
If your date falls on one of these events. Novalia shows a fixed price known before payment, tracks flights and sets the route against the traffic plan in force that day. Name the event when you book, or write to us at contact@novaliafleet.com: the drop-off point is prepared in advance, never on arrival.
