Ninety kilometres, and nothing like a motorway
On a map, Isola 2000 is 86 kilometres from the airport. On the ground, the last seventeen are a hairpin road climbing 1,100 metres, a closed pass waits at the top, and a night closure can force a detour over another pass. We have recorded, resort by resort, how you actually get up there — and we cite the source.
The vehicle is equipped
3PMSF tyres or anti-skid devices on board, according to what the destination and the date require. Nothing to hire, nothing to fit on the verge.
The route is checked
The Département’s traffic notices are consulted before departure. Three valleys out of four have several approaches: you still need to know which one is open.
The price does not move
Tolls, VAT, luggage, skis and waiting time included. No night surcharge, no high-season surcharge, no surprise on the way back.
Tinée valley
Isola 2000
The major resort of the Alpes-Maritimes, less than a hundred kilometres from the sea. The last seventeen kilometres are a hairpin road — that is where a transfer is won or lost.
from €260.85from Nice AirportAuron
The largest ski area in the Alpes-Maritimes by kilometres of piste, and the only resort in the Tinée to publish its road route down to the motorway exit number.
from €264.55from Nice AirportRoubion-les-Buisses
A perched village of the Tinée and its family ski area, above the col de la Couillole — the road the Département chooses when everything else is closed.

Valberg
The oldest resort on the French Riviera, founded in 1936 — and the only one to claim three different routes from Nice. That is not a tourist argument: it is what saves it when the gorges du Cians close.
from €245.19from Nice AirportBeuil-les-Launes
The quiet side of the Valberg ski area, and the largest cross-country area in the Alpes-Maritimes: twenty-five kilometres of groomed trails, ten minutes from Valberg.

La Colmiane
At the col Saint-Martin, the most accessible resort in the Vésubie. And the only one that is not at the end of a dead end: its road crosses from one valley to the next.
from €205.06from Nice AirportGréolières-les-Neiges
The only ski resort in the Alpes-Maritimes you do not reach through the Var valley. Sixty kilometres from the airport, through the hinterland above Grasse.

The closest ski resort to Nice: forty kilometres. You climb by the col de Turini road, which the regional tourist board ranks among the ten most beautiful roads in the world.
Quote on requestWhat the law requires between November and March
It is the rule that decides whether a car goes up or not, and the one that transfer comparison sites never mention. Here it is in full, sources included.
From 1st November to 31 March, in the communes listed by the prefect, a vehicle must either carry four tyres marked 3PMSF (the “three-peak mountain with snowflake” symbol), or have on board chains or snow socks able to equip at least two driven wheels. This is article 27 of the Loi Montagne of 28 December 2016, applied by the decree of 16 October 2020.
What has changed, and almost nobody has taken in: until 1st November 2024, a tyre carrying only the “M+S” marking was tolerated. It no longer is. The M+S marking is declarative — the manufacturer applies it without a test; 3PMSF is regulatory — it requires a snow grip test. In other words, an “all-season” tyre showing only M+S now counts for nothing under the Loi Montagne.
On the penalty we prefer to be exact rather than alarmist: the texts provide for a 4th-class fine, €135 and possible immobilisation of the vehicle, but the Ministry of the Interior stated again in February 2026, answering a written question in the Senate, that the measure was being applied “in an educational manner, without penalty”, the penalty decree not having been published.
And that is precisely why the fine is not the point. The real risk is not paying €135: it is not getting up there at all, or fitting chains yourself on the verge of a hairpin road, after dark, with suitcases and a flight the next day. Our vehicles leave equipped for the mountains when the destination requires it. You have nothing to check, nothing to hire, nothing to fit.
What the text says
| Period | From 1 November to 31 March, every year |

| Either | 4 3PMSF tyres, or chains / snow socks on board |
| M+S alone | No longer sufficient since 1 November 2024 |

| Penalty | Class 4 fine provided for; applied in an educational manner as at 12 February 2026 |
Times to reopen roads to traffic
How long the road stays blocked
The Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur publishes its road-clearing times by altitude band. These are response times, not promises — and they explain better than any speech why a mountain transfer is prepared differently from a seaside one.
Resources deployed: more than 540 staff, around a hundred machines and 2,400 km of roads. Among the official instructions to drivers: never overtake a snow plough at work, and avoid the passes at night.
Reopening time by altitude
| 0 – 300 m | 5 to 6 hours |
|---|---|
| 300 – 800 m | 4 to 16 hours |
| 800 – 1,200 m | 18 hours |
| 1,200 – 1,600 m | 36 hours |
| Above 1,600 m | 72 hours |
A mountain transfer in practice
The help centre answers the rest.
How much does a transfer to a ski resort cost?
From Nice Airport, from €205.06 including VAT for the whole vehicle: La Colmiane from €205.06, Valberg from €245.19, Isola 2000 from €260.85, Auron from €264.55. Skis, tolls and winter equipment included, fixed price shown before payment; other resorts are quoted on request.
Are your vehicles equipped for the mountains?
Yes, when the destination requires it. From 1 November to 31 March, the Loi Montagne requires, in the communes concerned, either four tyres marked 3PMSF or chains or snow socks on board for at least two driven wheels. Since 1 November 2024, a tyre marked only “M+S” is no longer enough. You have nothing to hire and nothing to fit.
What happens if the road is closed on the day of my transfer?
The valleys of the Alpes-Maritimes almost all have several approaches, and the Département publishes its official diversions. Valberg, for instance, can be reached by three different roads — which is what saved the resort during the rockfall in the gorges du Cians in January 2025. We consult the traffic notices before every departure, not the evening before.
Why not simply follow the satnav?
Because several passes in the Alpes-Maritimes are closed all winter while a route planner still suggests them: the Auron resort explicitly warns against the col de la Lombarde and the col de la Bonette. It is the most common routing trap in the Tinée valley, and it costs more than an hour.
How much luggage and how many skis can you take?
The Sedan takes 3 suitcases, the First Class Van 6 and the Standard Van 8. Declare skis, snowboards and bags when you book, as luggage: the class is chosen on that, and the number stated is guaranteed — no last-minute surcharge when it comes to loading.
Does the price change in high season or at night?
No. The price shown is the price you pay, on weekdays as at weekends, by day as by night, in February as in May. It includes VAT, tolls, luggage and free waiting time.
