Alongside or at anchor: everything follows from that
It is the leading cause of a missed transfer on a cruise. A ship alongside disembarks by gangway, on time. A ship at anchor disembarks by tender, group after group, and the real time you set foot ashore bears no relation to the published schedule. We state which applies at each port, and we set your pick-up by your disembarkation.
Ships alongside
The ship berths alongside the quay: you walk down the gangway at the time announced by the cruise line.
At anchor, by tender
The ship stays offshore and the ship’s tenders bring you in: allow thirty to ninety minutes between the ship’s arrival and the moment you set foot on the quay.
Alongside or at anchor
It changes from one call to the next: alongside the breakwater, or at anchor with a tender. The port’s official schedule decides, not habit.
The ports we serve
Port of Nice — Lympia
Ships alongside. The port of Nice takes ships alongside, right in the heart of the city. You walk down the gangway: no tender, no waiting out in the bay.
from €48from Nice AirportPort of Villefranche-Santé
At anchor, by tender. Here the ships anchor in the bay: you come ashore by tender, at the cruise terminal. Allow for the gap — the time that counts is the tender’s, not the ship’s.
from €60from Nice AirportPort of Cannes — quai Laubeuf
At anchor, by tender. Ships anchor in the bay of Cannes and land passengers at quai Laubeuf, a few steps from the Croisette. The quay is under construction until early 2027: the pick-up point is confirmed the day before.
from €81.02from Nice AirportPort Hercule — Monaco
Alongside or at anchor. Monaco is the only port on the Riviera with two arrangements: your call is either “digue” — alongside the Rainier III breakwater — or “rade”, at anchor. It changes the time you are ashore.
from €94.10from Nice AirportMarseille Provence Cruise Terminal
Ships alongside. A Mediterranean turnaround port: ships lie alongside, at terminals A to E. One road entrance only, Porte 4 — and a car park reserved for cruise passengers alone.
from €440from Nice AirportLa Seyne-sur-Mer cruise terminal
Ships alongside. The cruise terminal on the Toulon roadstead: ships alongside, at the North mole or the South mole. A permit is needed to enter the terminal area — so your chauffeur waits for you at the agreed point.
from €376.68from Nice AirportPort of Saint-Tropez — l’Estacade
At anchor, by tender. Cruise passengers land exclusively at l’Estacade, in the new harbour. One port rule worth knowing: chauffeur-driven cars set down and pick up, then leave immediately.
from €263.10from Nice AirportSavona cruise terminal — Palacrociere
Ships alongside. Costa’s Italian home port, alongside, two hours’ drive from Nice. A private transfer replaces a three-hour train journey with a change.
Quote on requestHow much does a transfer to the port cost?
From Nice Airport, from €48 including VAT for the whole vehicle: Nice — port Lympia from €48, Villefranche-sur-Mer from €60, Cannes from €81.02, Monaco — port Hercule from €94.10, Saint-Tropez from €263.10. The price is fixed, with cruise luggage and tolls included, and it is shown before payment.
Why do you ask whether the ship is alongside or at anchor?
Because it changes the time you are actually ashore. Alongside, you walk down the gangway at the announced time. At anchor — Villefranche, Cannes, Saint-Tropez — the ship’s tenders shuttle back and forth and more than an hour can pass. We set the pick-up by your disembarkation, not by the ship’s schedule.
What happens if the call is cancelled?
A tender operation can be cancelled by wind or sea state, and a call can be dropped altogether. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pick-up, with a full refund. After that, write to us: these cases are handled one by one, not by a blind rule.
Can the chauffeur come inside the port area?
It depends on the port, and each page says so. Some terminal areas are restricted zones requiring a permit — La Seyne-sur-Mer, for instance. In Saint-Tropez, port rules allow setting down and picking up, but not waiting. So we agree a workable meeting point in advance.
How many suitcases can you take?
A cruise means large suitcases. The Sedan takes 3, the First Class Van 6 and the Standard Van 8 — the number stated is guaranteed by the class, with no last-minute surcharge. Tell us your luggage when you book: the class is chosen on it.
