Ships lie alongside, at the Calata delle Vele or the banchina Don Genta, in the Darsena Nuova: you walk down the gangway. Road access is through the “Varco Terminal Palacrociere”, open for entry and exit, to vehicles and pedestrians, including Sundays and public holidays — with opening hours that follow ship arrivals and departures.
There is a car park on the Palacrociere site itself, right at the terminal, with no shuttle. To enter the customs-controlled area you need travel documents and must go through the checks: your chauffeur therefore does not cross that point with you, and you meet at the varco or in the car park.
There is no taxi rank at the terminal: the nearest is at Savona station, about twenty minutes’ walk away. This is exactly the case where a transfer booked in advance changes the day, especially with cruise luggage.
From Nice airport, the terminal itself states that the train takes about three hours, via Nice station. By private car it is a direct journey, with no change and no bags to carry — the toll and the border crossing are included in the fixed price.
