The route
From Nice airport, the A8 runs as far as the Le Muy exit. The road then crosses the Massif des Maures to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Out of season, allow about 1 hr 40.
In summer, plan for the peninsula
In July and August, access to Saint-Tropez narrows as you approach the gulf and the queues build through the afternoon. A few habits help:
- If you land in Nice in the early afternoon, allow plenty of time and warn your hotel.
- For a departure to the airport, leave early in the morning.
- If your flight allows it, Toulon-Hyères (54 km) or La Môle airfield (18 km) shorten the drive considerably.
What about the boat?
In season, Trans Côte d’Azur runs a day cruise from Nice (leaving at 9am, calling at Saint-Tropez from 11.30am to 4.30pm, back in Nice at 7pm). It is an excursion rather than a transfer: it does not suit travellers with luggage. Shuttle boats also cross the gulf from Sainte-Maxime.
Which vehicle should I choose?
For this journey of nearly two hours, the Sedan offers more space and comfort. For a family or a group with beach luggage, the First Class Van is the most comfortable. The price stays the one quoted, whatever the traffic.
On Tuesdays and Saturdays the market on the Place des Lices fills the centre: we drop you as close as we can.
